Rice Launches its first Staff Climate Survey

Dear Rice Staff,

At Rice, we are committed to excellence in all we do. This commitment includes how we serve our campus community, especially our employees – the people who make Rice the exceptional place it is today.

The work environment at Rice is important to us. We want our employees to be excited about their jobs and feel a sense of pride in what they do. In short, we want the work environment at Rice to be nothing short of excellent, which is why we want to hear from you. We are excited to announce the launch of the “Perch Perspective,” Rice’s first staff satisfaction and climate survey.

Administered by NORC at the University of Chicago, the Perch Perspective is a comprehensive inquiry designed to identify what staff like about Rice and how we can enhance your working experience. Owls often perch high above our campus, and the survey’s name represents gathering the viewpoints of our campus community from a high vantage point.

Staff play an integral role in shaping the success of our university, and your voice and experiences are invaluable in shaping our campus culture and making Rice a great place to teach, learn and work.

What your feedback will accomplish:

  1. Empower positive change: Your feedback will directly influence initiatives and changes that will improve our work environment, ensuring Rice continues to be an outstanding place to work.
  2. Enhance employee satisfaction: By understanding your needs and concerns, we can create a more supportive and inclusive community for everyone, and we can make meaningful changes where necessary.
  3. Drive innovation: Your unique experiences and ideas can spark innovation and help us grow as an institution.

The Perch Perspective will launch on Monday, February 5 and will cover a range of topics, including feedback on overall engagement, work experience, learning and development, benefits and pay, leadership and supervisor effectiveness, diversity, equity and inclusion, and other topics. The survey is designed to be anonymous to encourage open and honest feedback, and your responses will be confidential.

Human Resources will host virtual information sessions on January 22 and 24 if you want to learn more about the Perch Perspective. To access the information sessions signup, please follow this link: https://knowledgecafe.rice.edu/survey.

Your feedback, no matter your role, is important to our ongoing improvement. We encourage you to participate in the survey in February, and we look forward to your thoughts and insights.

Sincerely,

Kelly Fox, Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration
