Human Resources has successfully launched the Performance Management Program as part of the HR Excellence portfolio. This program cultivates a culture of continuous learning, emphasizing professional and personal development while fostering open communication, accountability, and shared expectations between supervisors and staff.
During the goal-setting period, staff members should collaborate with their supervisors to establish performance goals that align with the university's mission, vision, and values. Over 1,400 faculty and staff members have completed training on SMART goals, and many have already submitted their performance goals in advance of the August 31 deadline.
The Human Resources team has developed a comprehensive training video to facilitate a seamless transition for staff members. This resource provides valuable insights into the goal-setting process and introduces tools for crafting SMART goals. Active participation in this program empowers staff to showcase their skills, contribute to Rice’s success, and advance their careers.

The performance management team also offers live support during the goal-setting period through Zoom office hours. Office hours will continue through August and will be announced one week in advance. These sessions provide a venue for staff to seek guidance on the goal-setting process and other performance management topics. Staff members with questions are encouraged to register for office hours.
